PAINT IN THE TROPICAL SPLENDOR OF KEY WEST FLORIDA
November 5-15, 2012

Key West is the end of the road Tropicana, southernmost city in the US, a 2 mile by 4 mile island paradise where many artists have found their muse. They say the sun shines brightest when it sets, and islanders gather at the end of the day to celebrate the brilliant sunset at Mallory Cove with its jugglers, mimes, musicians and street artists. You'll wake to roosters crowing in the streets and spend your days awash in a tropical palate.

The island is rich with color and subject matter for painting, an architectural and botanical treasure with faithfully restored old wooden homes and gardens, bright blue- green water, beach paths winding through neighborhoods of multi-colored buildings, and the historic seaport.

Our accommodations are centrally located in a gated authentic Old Town Key West compound. Our cottages feature high ceilings with lots of light, and French doors leading to wrap around porches in tropical garden surroundings, including our own swimming pool and pond.

We are conveniently located to grocery shopping, art galleries, French Country and Cuban cuisine, deli restaurant and bakery. We are close to the beach and 2 parks, and Duval Street shops and the Historic Seaport District are a ten minute walk. All apartments feature full kitchens, so we'll be able to stock up for breakfast and snacks and bring home delicious island specialities like stone crab for dinner. And of course, Key West is a restaurant and night life haven for those who still have the energy at the end of a day of painting.

November is the very best time to visit the Florida keys with balmy weather and crystal blue skies, but not too hot.

Our days will start with a workshop corresponding to the subject we'll paint that day. Painting a different scene every day, we'll pause for lunch and meet again to finish our work. We'll return to our compound in the late afternoon for a critique and aperitif. These evening discussions of our daily work are always an enjoyable part of our workshops. Journals, which we provide, are another unique aspect of our workshops. In addition to painting on scheduled excursions, journaling is encouraged and significant time is spent suggesting different formats and subjects. Keeping journals filled with drawings, paintings, writing and other memorabilia has been a favorite activity of past clients.
